Kananaskis Country, Alberta
Keep going there’s still more!
This probably isn’t an area that most people choose to go backpack, it’s a pretty ugly area with all the washout and the trail is a wide road. Even though it’s not the nicest area the spot I found for the night was beautiful.
Now, if you follow my photography you may notice that these photos look quite different from my usual style. I can say that none of them made it into my portfolio, but some of them are kind of cool and the story is fun!
I knew from the beginning that this wasn’t going to be an amazing sunset but I had passed this spot on my way into camp so I thought that the winding river would make for a decent composition no matter what happened with sunset.

Not my best work but this shot was very reactionary, I was eating breakfast and all of a sudden the color started coming into the sky so I jumped into action! I had this spot picked out from the night before so that I would have something ready to shot in the morning just in case this exact thing happened.

My favorite image from this trip but also the most disappointing photo I’ve ever taken! The overall coloring and composition are beautiful but, I didn’t realize until I got home that I had cranked up the ISO way too far…

This shot was pure luck, I had started the hike out and noticed that the color around this peak looked nice so pulling my Canon off my should I took a quick shot not expecting too much. But, if you look just above the peak there’s a little black dot, and that is a perfectly timed bird going through the shot in the most beautiful way possible taking this from just another random shot to something I am quite proud of.
