Keep going there’s still more!

Bearspaw

This was one of those evenings where I just wanted to get out and take some sunset photos.

I haven’t really done this kind of “easy photography” before, it was pretty fun and I think I will be doing more of it in the near future.

Barbwire fence have always interested me because they seam like they have a lot of history to them and it helps that they are kind icon here in the parries.

The rolling hills of the foothills is a subject I haven’t spent enough time shooting in the past. I can’t say they are as majestic as massive mountain peaks but they have their own interesting qualities.

Now this is another weird shot compared to the rest of my photos because the horizon line is perfectly flat. So like the inexperienced prairie photographer I am, I got just low enough to catch some grass in the foreground to break up the smooth horizon.

This was the most purple sky I have ever seen! I learned afterwards that this is a fairly common  color for the sky in the parries just before a thunderstorm hits, so you can bet I’ll be out on the parries for a few more thunderstorms.

Lake Louise

After two days of good hiking I decided to take this sunset and sunrise pretty easy and focus on the Lake Louise area.

For sunset I stayed in the town of Lake Louise and walk on one of the community trails that followed the river, the goal was to try and find some areas that aren’t tourist spots.

Then in the morning, I made my way up to Lake Louise with the hope that there wouldn’t be to many people so early in the morning and luckily there weren’t very many people and an absoultly beautiful sunrise.

This picture makes me laugh every time I come across it because all I remember is seeing this cloud light up and absolutely booking it to a spot where I could get a good view.

Once I got the last shot and recovered my breath I took some time to look around my new vantage point and caught this little bit of after glow that create really nice separation between the sky and mountain.

In most cases when trying to shoot a reflection, you want smooth conditions, but I think in this case the very soft reflection makes you focus more on the cabin rather than the reflection which usually takes center stage.

It always amazes me how quickly a view changes once the sun starts to come up. This image is very cold but has beautiful lighting on the glacier in the distance.

Where as this image is cold but also has the feeling of a warm sunrise with just the tip of the  glacier being covered in warm sunlight. This one won the portfolio spot over the previous one because I the feeling to this one is calming and optimistic, also I prefer having the rocks in the foreground.

Lake Louise

Normally I don’t like the Lake Louise area, mostly because you can’t hike without bumping into people but when you go out late in the warm season and early in the morning there is no one in sight!

The Plain of Six Glaciers is a truly spectacular area and being alone in such a popular area is an amazing feeling!

Right near the end of sunrise can be the best time to catch amazing colors, this peak was directly opposite to where the sun was rising and I could see the pink start to climb down the mountain. It was really just a matter of waiting for the perfect amount of pink and hitting the shutter.

It’s always interesting seeing how certain mountains will take the sunrise coloring, in this case the light only lit the very front edge creating just little bit of color.

This is an area that has been photographed literally hundreds of times but I think I managed to catch a slightly different angle. In hind sight I wish I’d spent more time trying to get the creeks in the foreground and make them lead back to the glacier but all that means is this is a spot that I can revisit another time.
